Every printer equipped with a network interface card has a Media Access Control address. A unique MAC address identifies every device attached to a network. When you need to filter MAC addresses on your router or identify individual networked appliances on your LAN, printers can be more problematic than personal computers. The MAC address for a Windows computer can be viewed by opening a command-line window and entering “ipconfig /all” at the prompt. Since most printers aren't equipped with keyboard input, you need to employ alternate methods to discover these addresses on your office network.
Consult the Manual
1.Look at the product manual cover. Some manufacturers attach a MAC address label to the printer manual. This is usually noted with the legend: “Physical Address” or “MAC Address.” If this label is absent, proceed to the next step.
2.Consult the manual for instructions on printing the device's configuration page.
3.Print the configuration page and look for the “Physical Address” or 'MAC Address' entry.
Without the Manual
1.Open a command-line window on any network-attached computer.
2.Type “arp -a” without the quotation marks at the command prompt and press the “Enter” key.
3.Look at the entry immediately to the right of the printer's IP address. The MAC address appears as six sets of two hexadecimal characters separated by dashes. For example: 00-80-77-90-0a-8c.
